Shaffer rolls to win in Martinich Classic

Brenda Shaffer averaged 216 pins per game en route to the title in the 29th annual Jeanette Martinich Peterson Point Classic bowling tournament.

The event was held March 5-6 at Star Lanes and the King Pin.

The tourney saw 49 200-plus games and 10 600-plus series, though it was Shaffer’s games that included numbers such as 230, 233, 246 and her high game of 279 that carried her to the win. Shaffer had the high series of the tournament with a sparkling 728.

Other notable scores included Sherry Sullivan’s 278 and Ashleigh Preston’s 257.

Kira Gelling and Shaffer met in the final match of the stepladder finals and were in a 183-all tie before Shaffer won the event with a ninth- and 10th-frame rolloff.
