Butte Bulldog girls repeat as state bowling champs

HELENA — The Butte girls kept the team title they won last year in the High School State Bowling Finals that were held March 25 at Sleeping Giant Lanes.

Three-person teams were made up of high school students from Anaconda, Billings, Butte, Great Falls, Hardin, Helena and Missoula. The competition saw 14 boys’ teams and seven girls’ squads compete.

Hardin won the boys’ crown.

The Butte Lady Bulldogs team of Denea Reopelle, Kayla Medina and Amanda Mulcahy once again came out on top after two rounds of competition against the six other teams. The Great Falls High Lady Bison took the first-round lead, but Butte surged and edged them 186 to 175.5 in the final win totals.

Mulcahy won the girls’ singles gold medal with her four-game series of 806. The silver medalist was Lady Bison Marynda Martinich with a 752 series. Another Great Falls bowler, Joleen Martinich, took the bronze with a 747 series.

Mulcahy's series consisted of games of 206, 194, 199 and 207 in a very consistent roll. Butte racked up some other achievements, too. Eddie Zimpel took second in boys’ singles with his 816 series, earning the senior division silver medal. Colton Haeffner had a 755 series for the junior diviison silver medal. Also, Denton Marinich got the freshman silver with a 664 series.

Reopelle had a 586 series, good for the senior girls’ bronze. Mulcahy took the sophomores’ gold medal with her 806. Mikala Schumaker registered a 563 for the freshman silver.

Western Montana Junior Traveling League

February 4, 2007

We had some great junior bowlers competing in the Western Montana Junior Traveling League that held their recent stop at Star Lanes on February 4th.

In the Major Division: (ages 15 to 21) The first game of the stepladder Ryley Bosch of Butte defeated Ryan Sears of Missoula 219 to 185. Bosch went on to defeat Zac Wooten of Whitefish 218 to 215. In his third match Bosch's 186 game placed him 3rd agains Chris Dunbar of Billings' 230 game. Dunbar was then set for the championship match against Butte's Eddie Zimpel. Dunbar won the match 225 to Zimpel's 213.

In the Junior Division: (ages 14 and under) Jacob Brask beat Kyle McLean, both from Helena, 184 to 180. Brask then went on to defeat another Helena bowler, Tevin Charlton 204 to 160. Brask had to settle for 3rd place as Butte's Kade Henderson shot a 201 to his 142 game. Henderson came up against the number one seed, Tylor Doherty from Butte. Doherty was victorious bowling a 216 to Henderson's 173 game.

Bulldog Purple strikes gold!

Butte High senior Eddie Zimpel takes the gold medal in both the team and singles events with his games of 236, 223 and 217 for a 676 series. Teammate Austan Bosch took silver in the singles event with his games of 232, 192 and 225 for a 649 series. Billy Lira contributed to the threesome with a 503 series.

Team Bulldog White consisting of Colton Haeffner, Ryley Bosch and Ty Whalen took the silver medal in the team event, with total pins of 2368.

Billings High School Bowling Tournament

Amanda Mulcahy won the singles division and led her Butte High teammates to first place in the team event at a high school bowling tournament held Jan. 14 at Fireside Lanes in Billings.

Mulcahy was joined by Denea Reopelle and Kayla Medina on the Butte team that scored 1,946 pins for the win and the gold medals. Second place and silver medals went to Hardin with 1,861 pins, and bronze for third place went to another Hardin team, which scored 1,407.

Mulcahy shot a 517 three-game series to win the singles event by nine pins over Joelle Link of Hardin. Amanda Fergerson of Hardin placed third with 490 pins. They received gold, silver and bronze medals, too.

Butte’s Bulldog Bowling Club will be the host of the city’s first high school invitational tournament on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Star Lanes.

Eddie Zimpel leads Bulldog bowling to the top! Ryley Bosch, Colton Haeffner and Zimpel took top honors in the Team Division with Zimpel also taking home a medal for the singles event.

Bulldog Bowling brings home three team awards!

Two silver medals and a bronze were brought home from Missoula this weekend at the Missoula High School Tournament.

Bulldog Purple consisting of Eddie Zimpel, Chris Doyle and Billy Lira captured the silver medal while Bulldog White members Ryley Bosch, Colton Haeffner and Ty Whalen took the bronze.

In the girls division, team members Denea Reopelle, Amanda Mulcahy and Kayla Medina brought home the silver.
